A few names are still available on the "Giving Tree" in the Mansion waiting room. You still have time to get that gift that will mean so much to that little boy or girl. Thank you for your participation and generosity.

Good morning all:
This is just a friendly reminder of the giving tree. Thank you to those who have already taken a name(s) off of the giving tree. Gentlemen, the ladies are far outpacing you in their level of participation. We invite you to "step it up" and give us a run for our money.
The Giving Tree is ready!
by Tanya Rynicke on 2013-11-14
The giving tree is complete with tags and in the Waiting Room. We simply ask that you take a name (or names) from the giving tree and purchase one item off their wish list (which has 3 ideas). The value of the item will not be more than $20.00. The tree will be located in the Mansion Waiting Room. Please sign your name to the name on the list located next to the tree. Please wrap your gift; label it with the ornament from the tree and return it to either Big Brothers Big Sisters (Suite 104) or Aretha & Associates (Suite 105) no later than DECEMBER 2ND. At the FAKS Christmas party, Santa will be giving each child a present from one of his elves…YOU. We encourage you to sign the name tag or card with your name and/or business.
Thank you for your assistance, participation and generosity.
The Giving Tree....

As the Christmas season approaches and the spirit of the season warms our hearts, we invite you to once again assist in providing the children of FAKS (Foster, Adoptive, and Kinship Support of Livingston County) with a special Christmas. These children are clients, or have been clients, of the Dept. of Human Services; but the organization is independent and funded independently.
Together we can bring joy to a group of children in need of smiles and hope. Should you desire additional information please contact either: Shari, Big Brothers Big Sisters 546-1140 or Kris, Aretha & Associates, 548-1538. Tags will be on the tree on Thursday.
Thank you for your assistance, participation and generosity.

Odor in Mansion
by Tanya Rynicke on 2013-10-25
As some of you are aware, the building has experienced an intermittent sewer/natural gas odor over the past week to ten days from an unknown source. We have had Consumers Energy complete a thorough inspection of the building, and they confirmed that there are no natural gas leaks anywhere in the building. We also hired our plumber to do a complete assessment of the plumbing and sewer lines in the building, and he has found nothing that would be a source of the odor that has been experienced. So at this juncture, the source of the intermittent odor remains a mystery. We will continue to monitor the situation and try to identify the source of the problem, but we certainly welcome your help. If you experience the odor again in the future, please notify Kathy, Eileen or Tanya and try to pinpoint the specific location (if possible) of where the odor is the strongest. With your assistance, we may be able to identify the source and take appropriate action. Thanks for your patience and assistance.

The construction team has been marking the areas with white "X's". The tree in the North lot will be cut down and is also marked with an "X". Mansion Conference Room Windows
by Eileen Klein on 2013-10-02
Just a reminder to PLEASE double check the windows in the conference rooms when you open them. I have found windows that were not locked on several occasions. When you shut them...you think they are shut & locked but they are not. What happens is when you open them, the top part of the window slides down and the latch does not lock correctly and then it leaves the window open and unlocked. I would really appreciate your help in this matter. Thank you.

Thank you all so much for participating in the jeans day fundraiser! To show our appreciation, and in keeping with the message of teaching children and families healthy lifestyles, I've set out some healthy snacks in the kitchen for everyone to enjoy. Stop down when you have a few minutes and grab a bit to eat. For those of you running in the Run for Justice event tonight, it'll be a good energy boost before the big race! :)

Jeans Day - September 27, 2013
by Rebecca Dukes on 2013-09-20
Good afternoon everyone,
I am emailing regarding a McPherson Mansion “jeans day” fundraiser event next Friday, September 27, 2013 for the non-profit corporation, Association for Child Development (ACD). ACD is a sponsor of the Child and Adult Care Food Program and administers the program for more than 50,000 children enrolled in its sponsorship. For over 35 years ACD has been operating the program and educating parents and caregivers about nutrition in order to promote the development of children and establish healthy eating habits for life. Through the program, ACD is awarded federal funds to reimburse meals and snacks served to children and adults in in-home and institutional day care facilities. In 2011 ACD reimbursed over 20 million meals and snacks served to children by enrolled child care providers in Michigan and Illinois and is one of the largest sponsorships in the United States.
The federal program funds only cover the meals and a portion of the supervision, field operations, and administration costs for this amazing organization, though, and it is up to the organization and its board of directors, of whom I am a member, to raise funds to continue operating each year. As you may know, September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness month. The goal of the observance is to build awareness of childhood obesity and to help motivate families, communities, and businesses through awareness events. Participation in these events shows that everyone can play a role in the prevention and impact of childhood obesity.
In conjunction with this month of awareness, ACD has organized a “dress down day” event throughout Michigan and Indiana where participants make a donation to ACD and wear casual dress (or jeans) on Friday, September 27, 2013. Myers & Myers has chosen to participate in this fun event and encourages you to do so too. On the day of the event, we will have a flyer or poster in the greeting area to inform our guests that a special event is ongoing (so they don’t get the impression that the participants dress that casually all of the time).
In exchange for wearing jeans or other casual attire this day, ACD requests that each participant make a donation of at least $5. I will be collecting the funds and remitting them to ACD along with an event recap and donation form. I recognize that there are many great organizations that need fundraising help these days (including those in our own building), so participation is voluntary. Additionally, while the decision-makers at Myers & Myers have approved this event for our firm, if you have a typical dress code, you should seek approval from the decision-maker at your organization in order to participate. If you are able to participate and support this great organization, please stop by my office (202 – right above the kitchen) on that day to make your donation and get your participation sticker. If you will not be able to participate on the selected day, feel free to choose another day in September and just stop by my office with your donation.
Additionally, feel free to reach out to your other locations, customers, clients, and contacts, and encourage them to participate as well. I would be happy to administer their jeans day for them or provide them with the forms and instructions for them to administer it directly.
One very important outcome of this event is to develop partnerships among the diverse groups who impact children through nutrition. By working together we can begin to stop this epidemic in its tracks. I would love for you to join us in our efforts and participate in this jeans day event. Thank you in advance for your consideration and support.
